Coco peat Block & Disc
About Coco Peat
Coco peat, also known as coir pith or coir dust, is a natural byproduct obtained from the processing of coconut husks. It is widely used in horticulture, agriculture, hydroponics, and landscaping as an eco-friendly alternative to soil. Its high water retention, aeration properties, and biodegradability make it an ideal medium for plant growth.
Coco peat is rich in organic matter and contains:
- Lignin & Cellulose – Improves soil structure and aeration.
- Potassium & Phosphorus – Essential for plant growth and root development.
- Low Nitrogen Levels – Prevents excessive plant growth while supporting controlled nutrient absorption.
- Neutral pH (5.5–6.5) – Ideal for most plants without additional pH adjustment.
- Beneficial Microorganisms – Enhances soil fertility and prevents harmful fungal growth.
Coco Peat Block
Coco Peat Blocks
Coco peat blocks are compressed bricks of dried coco peat, which expand when soaked in water, making them easy to store and transport. They are widely used in gardening, hydroponics, and soil conditioning due to their excellent water retention and aeration properties. India is a major producer and exporter of high-quality coco peat blocks for global agricultural and horticultural applications

Electric Conductivity of Coco Peat
lectrical Conductivity (EC) in coco peat refers to the measure of soluble salts present in the material, which affects plant growth. It indicates the amount of minerals and salts like sodium, potassium, and chloride dissolved in the medium.
Types of Coco Peat Based on EC Levels:
- High EC Coco Peat (Above 1.0 mS/cm) – Contains more natural salts and is suitable for non-sensitive plants or industrial use.
- Low EC Coco Peat (Below 0.5 mS/cm) – Washed to remove excess salts, making it ideal for seed germination, hydroponics, and nursery plants.
- Buffered Coco Peat – Treated to balance calcium and magnesium levels, preventing nutrient lock-up in plants.
Importance of EC in Coco Peat:
- Low EC coco peat ensures optimal plant growth without salt stress.
- High EC coco peat may affect water absorption and root development in sensitive crops.
- Proper washing and buffering improve coco peat quality for agriculture and hydroponics.
